IASH Brown Bag Lunches bring together people from across the University for an informal conversation around a Key Word that raises significant intellectual challenges. The sessions are designed to support cross-disciplinary connections and to discuss differences in perspectives.
The whole session is one hour long, and people are invited to bring their own lunch. Four or five people, from a range of disciplines, are asked to prepare short presentations (no more than 3-4 minutes), before the conversation is opened up more broadly to the rest of the room.
There is no formal outcome expected from the session, but people are encouraged to continue the conversation and follow up the connections that they have made should they wish. The whole point is simply to bring people together to have a wide-ranging and stimulating conversation that crosses disciplinary boundaries, and addresses key question across the humanities, social sciences and arts.
So far, we have sessions planned on Secrets and Death, but more will follow. Should you like to propose a Key Word, please contact IASH Director Toby Kelly (toby.kelly@ed.ac.uk).
We want to keep the sessions informal and convivial, so space will be limited: please register below:
