Introducing our summer intern: Jayni Makwana

Hello! My name is Jayni and I am very excited to be joining IASH and GENDER.ED as the Communications and Events Intern this summer. Since starting university, I have been particularly interested in intersectional and decolonial feminist theory, and more recently, I have also developed a keen interest in applying these theoretical frameworks to discussions around global health and medicine.

As part of my role, I am excited to assist in the proofreading of various publications such as the second volume of Our Time is a Garden and a new collection marking 10 years of the Dangerous Women Project. I am also looking forward to participating in the organisation of events for the Edinburgh International Book Festival, such as the conversation between Val McDermid and Jo Sharp about their fictionalisation of the Darien Scheme.

I am interested in pursuing a career in journalism and so hope to develop both my written and digital communication skills through working on social media campaigns and assisting Dr Kaveri Qureshi with the GENDER.ED blog. I am also excited to expand my own knowledge by interviewing and learning about the work, background, and unique lived experiences of various academic and creative writers.

This September, I will be going into my fourth and final year of a Sociology and Politics degree and look forward to bringing new knowledge and skills into my academic journey.
