Hi! I’m Lauren, and this summer I will be working with IASH as the GENDER.ED Communications and Events intern. I will be working with IASH to help promote the third book created from the Dangerous Women Project, titled Women Who Dared, as well as proofreading work discussing decoloniality. I also get the opportunity to attend the IASH-supported Edinburgh International Book Festival event, where Naga Munchetty will be discussing her experiences in advocating for improved women’s healthcare, and the struggles which informed her book It’s (Not) All In Your Head.
Alongside this, I will be working on a variety of projects for GENDER.ED. I will be transcribing an oral history project which involves recording the experiences of staff who have taught gender and sexuality at the University of Edinburgh – a project which I am looking forward to as a history student! I will also be writing and editing content for the blog and creating promotional social media content for new blog posts. I have some administrative responsibilities as well, such as updating the GENDER.ED directory which details the staff at the University of Edinburgh who are currently researching or teaching gender and sexuality.
In September, I will be starting the 4th year of my undergraduate degree in history. I hope my work with IASH and GENDER.ED over the summer will help me to gain experience in organising and completing projects related to gender, as this will provide valuable experience before embarking on my dissertation.
